Why should I Gamemaster Elthos RPG?
Ok, let's face it. Gamemastering is a challenge. There's a lot to it. Mastering rules systems, and world creation, character management, map making,
improvisational theater, on-the-fly math, and smatterings of history, science, as well as the need for cat herding your players towards a fun and memorable
experience in your Worlds. Believe it -- That's a lot.
And then along comes Elthos RPG to make quite a lot of that much easier than ever before!
Ok I'm new to this. What is Gamemastering, anyway?
At its core the Gamemaster typically takes on the dual roles of Author and Game Referee.
First, the Gamemaster creates a fictional World with background stories and important characters, and whatever else might make for interesting adventures. Traditionally
the Gamemaster would create a map, often a dungeon map, and populate it with monsters, treasures, and whatever else might be of interest. The Gamemaster creates
the World's history, races, cultures, and everything else, according to whatever appeals
to the GM's imagination, crafting adventures for their players to encounter. When the GM is ready, they invite friends to play and they Generate
Characters (either by random dice rolling, or point allocation) and begin their adventures in the World. The Gamemaster will act as Referee for those adventures,
arbitrate rulings, roll the dice,
describe the world to the players
as their characters adventure through it, and play all of the characters and monsters in the World not played by the players themselves. It's probably the single
most
creative hobby ever invented, and it's awesome fun!
Ok So what is Elthos RPG?
The Elthos RPG is a traditional style Role Playing Game that is supported by a wonderful Web Application named The Mythos Machine.
Together they form a powerful
combination that helps Gamemasters create their own unique Worlds and run their games with elegance and style.
The Elthos rules embody a light-weight Role Playing Game that is focused on simplicity, flexibility, and creativity. Its goal is to
make world building and play as natural and intuitive as possible. Elthos games tend to be fast-action, high risk games that encourage
players to think smart, plan ahead, and rely on teamwork. That said, Elthos has many possible configurations that can moderate those qualities, allowing

Elthos World is likely to be an entirely unique experience. Your own imagination is the only limit of Elthos RPG.

Elthos Core Rules Book
The
Elthos RPG features a highly distilled role playing game utilizing the "One Die System" (ODS),
and a single Conflict Resolution chart called
the "General Resolution Matrix". Its primary focus is on fast and efficient play via light weight resolution rules, and tiny numbers math. Elthos RPG
also provides you with flexible configuration options including charts and formulas for going beyond the ODS if you wish. The Mini-System has been play tested
since 2007 with great success and a lot of wondrous worlds! To give you an idea please take a look at the

With the Elthos RPG you get fast action games with easy math and consistent methods for resolving action so you can focus on the

The Mythos Machine
The Mythos Machine is a wonder of 21st century technology that fuses your web browser with the Elthos RPG. It is primarily a game prep tool that helps
Gamemasters create and maintain their own Worlds by smoothly and efficiently doing all of the number crunching for you, and providing a centralized
online location to store your World’s Characters, Places, Adventures, and history of the character's adventures in your Worlds. It also allows your

Mutual Collaboration Society
In order to encourage an environment in which Gamemasters can freely share their creativity between one another on the system, the Mythos Machine offers the
World Elements Trading Post.
This feature allows GMs to Share their Elements (Armors, Weapons, Places, etc) by setting them as Public. Other Gamemasters on the Mythos Machine can browse
the list of Public Elements shared by other GMs. When they click on an Element they will see its description and properties, and if they like
it they can import a copy of it to use in their own World, and modify their copy to whatever degree they wish. Conversely, if you want to keep your creations private,
you can do that, too, in which case no one else will see your World's Elements but you and your Players. The sharing aspect, according to our Terms of Service,
extends to
allowing, and being allowed to, use any Public Elements shared on the system for Derivative Works as well. So, for example, did a fellow Gamemaster
may
have shared a fantastic "Sword of Infinite Shining" that you've been using in your game, and now one of your players wants to make a web comic based on it? No
problem!
They are allowed to do that. And Elements that you Share can also be used by others on the system to create their own Derivative Works, or just use them in their
own private
games as they wish. It is a share and share alike system with the goal of opening avenues of creative collaboration and allowing people to grow and prosper with
each other.
The Upshot...
With the combination of Elthos RPG and the
Mythos Machine Gamemasters have the freedom to create entirely unqiue Worlds of
any genre they can imagine with a tremendous amount of flexibility, organization and personal creativity. Your friends can generate and maintain
their Characters in your Worlds online which is very convenient. By combining a light-weight rules system with a web application
that is designed to support those rules Gamemasters recieve an awesome capability.
That said, Elthos RPG does not require the use of Mythos Machine, and can be used independently as a stand alone rules set for creating amazing
RPG Worlds! It's just that with the Mythos Machine doing all of the number crunching, record keeping and character maintenance, along with having
an online storage location for your Worlds... the combination just can't be beat.
